Representing AWS Security at VMI 2022 CyberFusion Conference

Representing AWS at VMI
Last week I had the distinct pleasure of representing AWS Security at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) 2022 CyberFusion Conference. It’s a conference organized by VMI’s Center for Leadership and Ethics. AWS has participated in the CyberFusion conference since the inaugural kickoff in 2017. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world's most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 175 fully‑featured services from data centers globally. The AWS Security team owns security for all services provided by AWS, including EC2 and S3. This ownership creates many different opportunities for cross‑team collaboration and high visibility.

Workforce Development Panel
My part in this year’s conference was speaking on an employer's panel around workforce development. We talked about many things, including:
- The evolution of the cybersecurity industry
- Attracting diverse populations to the industry
- Steps students can take to be successful in cybersecurity
- Role of Certifications
- Common mistakes young professionals/students make in the field

Connecting with Future Leaders
I also got to occupy the AWS booth and chat with some outstanding students and future leaders that will one day be in the field. Special thanks to VMI for the opportunity to speak and AWS Security Leaders for the trust to represent the organization in a public forum.
